What a COA is
A Certificate of Analysis (COA) is a document that reports the results of analytical testing for a specific batch of material. It is one of the most useful tools for evaluating documentation critically.
The sections that matter
Look for the batch or lot reference, which ties the document to a specific production run. Check the identity result, the purity result and the method used to obtain it, the test date, and — where disclosed — the laboratory that performed the analysis.
A strong COA is specific and internally consistent. Vague language, missing methods, or results that cannot be tied to a batch are reasons to ask more questions.
Healthy skepticism
Documentation is only as trustworthy as it is verifiable. Treat impressive-looking figures with the same scrutiny as everything else, and prefer sources that show their work.
